From Yangshuo, we took a two-day excursion to Longshen, located two hundred kilometers to the north. It took seventeen generations for the Zhuang people—one of the mountain tribes in this region—to cover these mountains from base to peak with rice terraces. Breathtakingly beautiful! We were fortunate enough to visit this area in 1997 when it was still in a virtually pristine state. There were no paved roads, no cars, no modern amenities—and not a single tourist. And since the local people wore their traditional clothing, it truly felt as if time had stood still.
